Doctor Who companions?

Everyone in the new series has been from "our" time so to speak.I think though there was an episode in the first series with Chris Ecclestone where a character from a space station from the future travelled briefly with him and Rose but he left in the next episode.Certainly in the original/clic who there were a lot of companions who were from the future.Even the very first companion Susan was the doctors grand daughter so would had certainly come from another time.
